I suppose I have been tagged.

I’m not entirely sure how this works, but I believe it is my turn (thanks to my sister) to reveal six things about myself that you may not know. Since my mom and my sister are the only two people who read my blog, that may be difficult. Ok, here we go:

  1. I am 1/4 of the way through my masters degree (Masters of Arts in Theological Studies) from Liberty University.
  2. I am currently listening to “Blinking Lights and Other Revelations” by The Eels on iTunes random album play.
  3. I try to always listen to an album in it’s entirety from cover to cover.
  4. I haven’t been in my studio in about two months, though I keep spending money on it.
  5. I have designed a blog theme for my blog, but I’ve been too busy with school work to fully implement it. Hopefully I will finish it in the next couple of weeks.
  6. I haven’t mowed my back yard in two or three month, and I have a lighting-struck tree laying across what used to be a trampoline back there.
I’m supposed to tag 6 other people, but I only know one who blogs that wasn’t tagged by the same person who tagged me, and he will probably get tagged by my sister-in-law, so I’m skipping this step.

Long time

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I’m not sure how long it’s been since I posted.  I’m sure I could go look at the date on my last one, but that would defeat the purpose of this being a super quick post.  My sister has been urging me to blog more consistently (among other things, i.e. facebook).  So here is my first effort towards being a consistent and purposeful blogger.

Triple Nazi

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I really need to figure out how this stupid blog thing works.  I tried to copy and paste an email, and it turns out weird, stretching sentences to the full width of the column among other things I couldn’t seem to change.

Anyway I get an email about a month ago telling me to “cease and desist” distributing the Mac dashboard widget I made for using the copyrighted name ” TRIPLE YAHTZEE”.  I never really did anything about it because Apple pulled the widget off their site, but I got a new email this morning so I decided to pull my front page down until I can get around to changing the name and graphics of my widget.  How does “Triple Nazi” sound?

I’m giving this game away for free, not charging anything, and these guys come after me.  Boo on them.  Oh well, eventually I’ll get around to changing the name and stuff and putting it back out there.  Until then, any alternate spelling or naming ideas are welcome.

Peace out.

who’s teaching who?

My 16 year old nephew is one of the coolest people I know.  I have been mentoring him for the past month or so on wednesday nights, and even though I don’t know what I’m doing, I love it.  I think I’m learning as much from him as he is from me.  He has such a great way about him, and although he is a very young Christian, he is making great strides.  He’s the kind of guy who can walk up to anyone and strike up a conversation.  I wish I had that boldness.  Our upbringings couldn’t be any more different, but he has taken what was given to him and come out the other side stronger.  I admire his courage and loyalty.  I’m not sure exactly what he hopes to gain from hanging out with me, but I appreciate our time together.

The best movie I’ve seen in a while.

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I just saw the most hellacious (dictionary.com 1st definition) movie!  I don’t even know how to explain why it was so amazing.  It was like a Korean Shaun of the Dead.  Like a more intense and abruptly funny Kung Fu Hustle.  It was Jaws meets, well, it was like a funnier Jaws.  If you’ve ever appreciated a serious movie with unexpected shots of drollery (dictionary.com again), you mos def must watch The Host.  There were a handful of scenes where I literally doubled over laughing, and it was while people were dying.  The comedy was so well placed that when it’s funny you forget you’re watching a sci-fi/thriller/horror movie.  But at the same time, the story is extremely gripping and resolves completely unlike a comedy ever would.  If you can’t sit through a movie with subtitles then don’t even think about it.  But if you liked any of the movies I mentioned, or even just like to watch movies with really good cinematography, then please go rent this movie.

losing is only half bad

There’s something bitter sweet about getting completely lost in a book.  Sitting in my favorite chair with the perfectly selected song playing an indispensable supporting role behind the pages until the melody breaks through, and during a brief intermission, I’m transported somewhere completely and distinctly different before returning to the story.  Then like waking from a dream that would have lasted forever, the book closes—reality begins.
